I am an aircraft engineer. i work on Robinson R22 and R44 heli's. I am due to start my recruitment course on tuesday but there are a few problems. i have asthma and the army dont want to know me. i have always wanted to join one of the services as the benifits are fantastic.
I read a book called "chicken hawk" about an army piolt in Vietnam. Fantastic feats of courage you pilots showed during the war.

I am definitely interested in possibly joining the military as a helicopter pilot. Your experience in aviation inspired me to learn to fly the helicopter. i know nothing about aircraft but in Malaysia we have aviation and maritime exibition called LIMA which held every 2 years. I'm very interested in tandem helicopters. About three, maybe four years back I saw an article in an avation mag about a kit, single seat,side by side, tandem helicopter manufactured in Florida by two brothers.
It had twin engins with a crossover transmission. Total rotor span was about 14 ft.

Great site for info and design too.
I'm a "wanabee" heli pilot. Still paying for my time, but now is the time to find someone who will pay me. Even after the tremendous amount of money I invested in flying, I still do not regret it. Having no family ties and free time is a plus. I see the difficulty in trying to find a flying job every time I try. Hey, if it doesn't work it'll be the most expensive hobbie:-)

Flying Helicopters is something that I have always wanted to do for as long as I can remember. I had joined the Marines first and had Heli flight school anter I got out of boot camp. I was on the delaied entry program and was a week from shipping out when a guy hit me from the side while I was crossing an intersection on my motor cycle. I wasn't hurt bad but I got a medical discharge. They woundn't take me back after that. I went next door to the Navy who said that there were no openings in avation at the time but I could be a construction mechanic. Since I already had a couple of years of working on yellow iron with my Dad I took it. I don't regreat it in the least and have been working on yellow & green iron every since. I am married with two boys 10&4. I am just getting tired of the same old things for 18 years. One of these day I would like to have a job where I can wash my hands after I go to the bathroom instead of before. Ha Ha I have been doing some looking around for info. before I take the leep into flight school for a carier change. Your FAQ page was the best I found so far and, you did answer alot of the questions that I had. I am 34 now and if it is as hard to get a job as a pilot as you say, I might just try for my private. It sure would be nice to fly for a living I think though. |
